ROMsets is the latest musical “outsider” to join Machine Woman’s label, Take Away Jazz Records,
making it his debut signing following a string of self-releases. Following on from Sid Quirk, he is the
second external artist welcomed to the imprint, as owner Anastasia Vtorova uses her homegrown
platform to bring underground talent to the surface - but never too far above.
Faulty’s is a prominent EP for the Welsh-born, Manchester-based producer, acting as a “diary” and showcase of the ROMsets project, which he has been building for three years.
Painting soundscapes with arcade game samples distorted out of recognition, it’s not the result you’d expect. The final moments of a ‘bleep’ or an arbitrary background effect are manipulated, carefully.
ROMsets loves the fragility of the process, favouring considered, minimal productions that challenge the listener, but not beyond their limit.
